Hello lovelies!
Our skin and self-care routines are so important. By all means and I am no expert this area, but I believe knowing the very basics can go a long way. Your skin will thank you (especially years from now!)
Creating a routine is sort of like a trial and error and can take some time so be patient with it. It's also important to understand your skin type so tune into that.
The products / regiments may not work for you, but it's always a good idea to try out new things to determine what your skin needs. So, let's dig into it!
1. Remove your makeup and find a good cleanser to wash your face
When I get home from work, I like to wipe off my face before I actually wash. This was not something I use to do before. I just use to dive straight into washing.
I came across these Marcelle Oil Free Makeup Remover pads on the Marilyn Dennis show and decided to give it a try. It also works wonders by getting into the eyelid creases. Adding this extra step at the onset really gives it a little but of a squeaky clean. What I also like about this makeup remover pad is that it does not dry out my skin, and if I decide to just wipe and wash later, I don't need to apply moisturizer. It's easy as wipe and go.
After I wipe off my makeup, I use Clean & Clear Morning Burst to wash my face. The morning burst version smells really yummy! I also sometimes use Nivea Exfoliating Facial Scrub. Both options are hydrating, exfoliating and affordable.
2. Use a face mask
Every other night I apply Tatcha's Violet-C Radiance Mask. I ended up trying Tatcha after my bestie swore by it. I don't like to purchase full sized products unless I absolutely love it, so I purchased the Skincare for Makeup Lovers: Dewy Glow Set, which is a limited edition set that carries four (4) mini sized products by Tatcha including this face mask! I am glad to say it was an impressive introduction to Tatcha.
Tatcha's Violet-C Radiance Mask goes on very smooth and does not dry out on your skin. It has a gel-like texture and has minimal ingredients (always a bonus). If you are hesitant to try the full size, I highly recommend going for the Dewy Glow Set, like I did.
Another favourite of mine is Bobbi Brown Skin Nourish Mask. The unique feature about this mask is that it's cream based. I simply apply a thin layer, let it sit, and because of the cream base, I massage it into my skin and it acts as my night moisturizer (if I use this option, you can apply your toner before applying this).
3. Apply toner
I have been recently using Dickinson's Enhanced Witch Hazel Alcohol Free Hydrating Toner. It came recomended by a friend of mine and I think it's doing my skin well. It does not smell the greatest, but I find it definitely helps with hydration and helps even your tone.
I also like Nivea's Gentle Facial Toner. I usually use this, but wanted to take a break to try out the Witch Hazel since it was recommended by a friend of mine.
4. Apply Moisturizer/ Nightcream
I have used Nivea my entire life. My grandmother started using it when she first came to Canada and so it quickly became a staple. Back then, Nivea only had one product, which was Nivea Creme (the classic blue tin) As I grew up, the original Nivea became too oily for my skin, so I tried Nivea Soft as a teenager and that is what I honestly credit my skin's softness too. It's lightweight, non-greasy formula has worked wonders for me.
I will say that I also really like Tatcha's Dewy Skin Cream, that I got apart of the Skincare for Makeup Lovers: Dewy Glow Set but and I always keep coming back to Nivea Soft, no matter what I try. I highly recommend to conduct some research to check out the ingredients and the cost of these creams. They are on different ends of the spectrum.
My favourite night moisturizer is Nivea Essentials 24H Moisture Boost + Nourish Night Cream for Dry Skin. This moisturizer is slightly thicker than Nivea Soft, but I personally like that for the night, so that it does its thing to replenish my skin.
5. Sleep on a satin pillowcase
Satin pillowcases are the latest rage for promoting and maintaining healthy skin and hair. I am still new to this technique so I will not comment too much on it yet. I got mine from Winners but here is an Amazon option that has wonderful reviews. I am very excited to experiment with this because I have wavy hair and its taken me a long time to get a technique down pat to mange my wavy hair (I promise to do another post for this!).
I hope you found my nighttime skincare routine informative and helpful. I’d love to hear some of your skincare tips, tricks and fave products in the comments below!
Love,
Big T
